Consider the West End
The West End tends to be an undervalued area in comparison to the rest of Downtown Vancouver. There are obvious reasons for this such as the prevalence of wood-frame buildings and older buildings, though this hardly makes up all of the buildings in the West End. There are many hidden gems to be found and lots of newer buildings as well.
I write this article as a West End resident that is surprised more buyers overlook the West End in their search. Case in point, my building 'The Jetson' at 1277 Nelson St., is condo building built in 1995, and a fantastic condo tower despite a few ongoing plumbing problems.
'West End is Best End'
'West End is Best End' is one of the most common phrases uttered by West Enders, to tell others in the city about where they live, and I couldn't agree more. The proximity to Stanley Park, English Bay, and Sunset Beach all add to the community feel; while Denman, Davie, and Robson all have great dining and grocery options. My personal choice is The Score on Davie, who's friendly staff who always make my day. All these reasons are why the West End was once again named the best Vancouver neighbourhood to live in by Vancouver Magazine. In 2015, the West End even won the best neighbourhood to live in Canada by The Canadian Institute of Planners.
New Developments
There is no shortage of new developments coming into the West End, especially along Thurlow and Davie Streets. The Mirabel, Butterfly, and Landmark to name a few. While these developments lack the typical West End homely feel, they will all be prominent fixures in the community. Prices for these new developments are so high, that older condos will increase price in turn. Even if the condo market slows, I feel the West End is the most stable area downtown and is the best short or long-term investment.
